Introduction
Business Solutions Consulting (BSC) is a start-up consulting firm focused on serving the comprehensive needs of businesses in the full range of the business cycle. BSC is able to provide a better quality service than its competitors thanks to its core team of professionals and team approach to all consulting projects.
The Company
Business Solutions Consulting is a team of six business consultants. Each consultant specializes within a particular area, including finance and marketing, technology and operations, as well as human resources and management.
BSC offers business owners a range of services depending on what their business needs are. This includes; business and marketing plan preparation, financial search and procurement, IT consulting services, management development, human resources advising, and etc.
BSC will be focusing its efforts on start-ups during the initial stages of operations. International markets have a large proportion of small- and medium-sized business. BSC prefers to have a relationship established with a younger business and to maintain that relationship over time.
BSC will become an Oregon LLC. Two principal partners own 50% of the company. Andrew B. Christiansen has extensive business planning and finance experience, including positions as CFO with ABC Conglomerate (DEF International) and DEF International. David E. Fields brings experience in the areas marketing, advertising, communication.
The Market
The business consulting industry is very fragmented. Many large multinational companies dominate this industry, while smaller (and sometimes more specialized) businesses occupy their market niches. Major management consulting firms like McKinsey, Bain and Boston Consulting Group have established their dominance by providing services in various industries to some of the most prominent companies. The consulting services of major accounting firms (a.k.a. the Big Five) have established worldwide presence and sell their packaged services to companies of different sizes and industries. In the same way, many businesses and individual business consultants succeed in markets that are not profitable for larger players.
This company targets startups. BSC wants to keep the pulse on local business activity. In order to find new clients, BSC will use its business contacts, as well as referrals from the group. Start-up companies are attractive because owners often lack the broad range of knowledge and expertise required to launch a new business. These types of services for start-up consultants are in huge demand.
BSC offers many of the same services as competitors who are at the forefront of this market. These services include information and integration services, as well as management services. Services are designed to increase clients’ operations effectiveness through reduced cost, improved customer service, enhanced quality of current product lines and services, and a more rapid introduction of new products and services. Competitors offer industry-specific experience to help you objectively evaluate, select and develop information systems, networks, or applications.
Consulting firms BSC is competing with include regional and specialty consulting firms, as well as the consulting groups of international accounting forms such as KPMG LLP, Ernst & Young LLP, Deloitte & Touche LLP, PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, and Andersen Consulting. BSC competes among information system vendors, including Integrated Systems Solution Corporation, Electronic Data Systems Corporation, Perot Systems Corporation, SAIC, CAP Gemini America, Inc., Computer Sciences Corporation, as well the management and IT consulting services. BSC competes both with traditional competitors and with newer Internet product and services companies like Scient and TriZetto.
Financial
Andrew B. Christiansen & David E. Fields, co-owners at BSC, will each give $50,000 that will cover the bulk the start-up expenses. The remainder of the funding will come from the Small Business Administration (10-year) loan of $100,000. These funds combined will be sufficient for the company to cover its expenses for the first one year of operation. This is the most crucial cash flow aspect.
BSC’
The Break-even Analysis takes into account the average of the first year’s total sales, excluding salaries, bonuses, and other operating expenses. It is clear that BSC will cease to exist after ten months.
